SPEAKER_07One block up the road. They're going to be doing some work for you at the rest of your home as well. So communicating with them. See? They are great. They're great over there. But today's episode is finding more about Crystal and you and what makes you tick and what makes you Crystal Rivali.
SPEAKER_05I hope we find out today.
SPEAKER_07What intriguing minds do want to know. And so we do have, you do have, you want to just say you have someone with you today?
SPEAKER_05Yes, I have Brock Kirsten with me today, our marketing expert at Willow Lane Spa. So basically, if you've seen or know anything about Willow Lane Spa, it's genuinely it's Kirsten.
SPEAKER_07All right. So hey, for our listeners and followers, introduce yourself. Tell us who you are, a little bit about your background.
SPEAKER_05So my name is Crystal Rivali. I'm from Litchfield originally, born and raised, graduated from there, raised my children there. We did, however, move away about 15 years ago. We left for about a decade and had the opportunity to live in several different parts of the country. So that's been amazing. But then that allowed me to, I've always had an interest in aesthetics, but whenever we moved to Arizona, I decided then I was like, I'm in the epicenter of resorts, education, wellness. And that's why I decided to take the leap and go ahead and pursue my aesthetic career even deeper. Yeah, while we were out in Arizona, I did my schooling out there, straight out of school, acquired my first spa job. It was Spa Nordstrom.
SPEAKER_07So you guys and for Nordstrom, like the national company Nordstrom.
SPEAKER_05Yes, and big time.
SPEAKER_07Wow. I've been to Nordstrom. I am in all of America.
SPEAKER_05That's what I'm saying. Big dog, big time, big dreams. Crystal.
SPEAKER_07Let's go.
SPEAKER_05Okay, let's go. Go on. Yeah, but Nordstrom, that was an amazing opportunity because they have all of their Nordstrom stores, but they actually only have 12 spas. Oh, wow. In some of their more elite locations. So it was an amazing opportunity to advance and grow. I got to meet celebrity aestheticians, do some training with them. I was introduced to Hydrofacial at that time.
SPEAKER_07Which you guys have hydrofacial.
SPEAKER_05We do have Hydrofacial. We do. I'm a super fan. But yeah, I got to experience that whole spa industry, how a business works. Their spa was set up in a day spa type of way, which is what we do at Willow in Lichfield.
SPEAKER_07Versus a night spa? So a night spa. So day spa versus night spa.
SPEAKER_05What's the I don't know, but my gears are already let's free business. That's not for you. I take notes. So would a day spa be like you're you can't stay the night there, is basically what you're saying, or books or weekends and day spa. As of right now, we don't have overnight visits.
SPEAKER_07Is there such a thing as an overnight spa?
SPEAKER_05No, but what we mean by day spa is so you probably heard the term med spa and then you've heard day spa. Okay, got it, got it. Day spa can gear towards more of your relaxation type services or med spa gets into gets into more advanced services of micro-eneveling, injections, suction cups, injectables, what do they call those billers? We don't do that there. Botox. Well, why are we pointing at me? No, I'm just kidding. Okay, so I like that. So a day spa, you're focusing on the health of your skin and the wellness of your my. Yeah, we're looking to take a more natural approach so you can prolong delay or not even have to use the film. Injectable injectable at all.
SPEAKER_07So Caitlin needs to come visit you more often.
SPEAKER_05No, Caitlin's fabulous. She is fabulous. You can look, it's three against one here, buddy.
SPEAKER_07I'm trust me, I grew up in a house that way. I am fine. You're prepared. I was the baby of two older sisters and a mother, and I was fine. I'm good.
SPEAKER_05So this actually explains a lot of why you're so sweet.
SPEAKER_07I try. Thank you. What do you butter me up for? Oh, you got Cobo's position. What do you want to do?
SPEAKER_05I know, I'm just saying. But no, I agree because I think that I'm glad that you're here because I don't think it's educated enough to women how important it is to start this young. Oh, yeah, very sorry.
SPEAKER_07Wait, is oh well, is Willowlane Spa open to men?
SPEAKER_05Yes, we do accept male clients. Do you get we do? We actually and even we have male clients and even like our younger or teenagers, early 20s, we have more guys than women, to be honest.
SPEAKER_07We do. So what inspired you to open Willow Lane Spa?
SPEAKER_05Okay, so my journey, Arizona, while I loved my time at Nordstrom, at the end of the day, it's still a retail environment. So there were weekends and evenings that don't necessarily jive with my lifestyle.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_05So I was taking the opportunity, I was actually getting ready to start a business in Phoenix. A long story short, our journey's brought us back home. Life happened and life happens, and we're back to central Illinois, and we had some property here that we had kept. So we moved back into that, started renovating, insert big dog in Elite. Yes, it's a true story. Yes, it is a true story. True story. But yeah, so anyway, back to Litchfield. So it's my hometown. I knew there was not a full service spa like I was wanting to create being offered in our area that I was aware of or that I'm aware of. So yeah, we just you could start a business anywhere. So we just we found a great property, a nice little location. Yeah, a nice storefront that every time I would drive by, I say I have an interest in real estate as well. But every time I would drive past that building, I was just like, what a pretty calling it. Yeah, and then two weeks later for rant sign went in the yard. So here we are. I remember driving by it when you first started renovating it. I'm telling you what, I immediately got on the phone to Kath, my mom. Kath. Yeah, Kath. I'm like, oh my god, there's a spa coming. And just your aesthetics and the view you have, you can tell that you're into real estate and homes as well because it's so beautiful in there. And it's relaxing. Thank you.
SPEAKER_07Location, location, location.
SPEAKER_05For sure.
SPEAKER_07That's what they say in business, right? That's the key location. And it's right on the right.
SPEAKER_05Is that Route 66? No, it's Union. Highway 16.
SPEAKER_0766 is further west of that.
SPEAKER_05Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_07So give a shout out your address.
SPEAKER_05317 West Union Avenue. So if you're familiar with Pizza Hut and or not Pizza Pizza.
SPEAKER_07Pizza Mayan. Pizza Rough, yeah.
SPEAKER_05It was just a one-word difference. Okay. Yeah. Pizza Mayan. Pizza Man in Lynchfield.
SPEAKER_07In front of O'Reilly's.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, in front of O'Reilly's, but we're in that parking lot right there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07And I love your pizza. It's beautiful. I know. So how long have you been how long has Willow Lane Spa been at this location or been in existence?
SPEAKER_05Willow Lane started in 2020 at an island in my not an island, but my kitchen is a tropical island, if you can picture Tropical Islands my kitchen island in Arizona. But it the business starts so early on. There's branding, choosing your colors, your website, like your offerings, everything you're gonna offer. Yeah, everything you're gonna offer. Your mission. Yeah, preparing to interview to bring on staff. So for one year it was a lot of preparation behind the desk. And then we acquired the building. So then it was many months of renovation and colors and painting. And my husband was an amazing part of that journey. He's my old contractor. I love it.
SPEAKER_07That's right.
SPEAKER_05And I think it's very important. And we talk about this a lot on the podcast, but how colors are so important to affect your mood or especially with business owners, especially in your line of work. You want you can't have a big bright red like ceiling. And something you said. Your beautiful ceiling, remember what we saw? Oh, yeah. And you thought of this. Oh, yeah, as a business owner. Most of my clients are going to be laying down. Yeah. They don't want to look at they are laying down. Their eyes are closed a lot of times, but they're not always. You need a lovely ceiling to look at as well. So we put in some nice pictures, great ceiling tiles. You care about your clients.
SPEAKER_07We do the mood and all of that.
SPEAKER_05And yeah, that I also want to bring something else up. It's a little compliment. So I'm thinking about I remember when I had first met you, you talking about being in Arizona and starting off there. I guess I didn't realize an order strum, and you're sitting here telling me celebrity aestheticians. Like I love that you have brought this from another part of the country that is, like you said, we know this golf resort spas with Arizona. And you've brought that I'm gonna say this specialty niche. Is it niche or niche?
SPEAKER_06Niche. Okay.
SPEAKER_05Depends on your from.
SPEAKER_06True. True. It is true. What do you say? Uh niche?
SPEAKER_05I like to say niche. Niche. Thank you guys. I've been attacked by grammar Nazis before.
SPEAKER_07Oh, two, three. Crystal, you didn't say it.
SPEAKER_05Sorry, one more time.
SPEAKER_07One, two, three. Niche. All right. Awesome.
SPEAKER_05I know Kristen was saying it in her head too. I could tell you. I heard it.
SPEAKER_07I heard it over here.
SPEAKER_05But to bring that to mid-Illinois is something very special because you know that is I'm not dogging anybody around here. But to bring it from somewhere like that when you're really learning the profession from the professionals, yeah, here is a different. I think many of us know that a lot of fads and things begin on the east or west coast and then that makes our their way to the middle. Um rather it's a very good thing. That is the west decorating, whatever. It's just the way it works. So yes, I do feel like it's been advantageous for us to. I've been exposed to a lot of what's going on the West Coast. And even though it's in Arizona, I do most of the businesses that we our vendors that we work with at the spa, so many of them are right there on the West Coast in California. So it's just it's a very forward-thinking way of doing things. Okay.
SPEAKER_07Were you able to use your relationships that you had from working with Northstones to bring those? I still do.
SPEAKER_05I was just on the phone with my hydrofacial girl last week. Yes, I have veryone needs a hydrofacial. Yes. I think we need to I need a hydrofacial. Let's go into hydrofacial.
SPEAKER_07Let's one on this. For those that don't know about Willow Lane Spa, why don't you walk us through some of the services that you have there?
SPEAKER_05Sure. So definitely hydrofacial. When we opened Willow Lane Spa, it was just me. So I was doing facial services across the board by myself. Um but as we grew, we knew we wanted to bring in more services and growth. I have, I'm actually trying to actually quite successfully led myself out of the treatment room. I'm about 95% out. So I brought in another correct because I just I want to focus on the business so I can grow. So I want to bring in a team of individuals so they can grow themselves. Like I just have I can tell that you do that. Individuals that come work for me, but I want them to be their own boss and in charge of their own destiny and making what they do their own so that I can go do this. I love aesthetics, but I love right.
SPEAKER_07You started out as a solopreneur.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_07And now you're a true entrepreneur because you have employees that you are affecting their lives. No, that's true.
SPEAKER_05That is the definition going from a solopreneur to a I'm in tears because that's so sweet, and it reminds me of what you're doing for me.
SPEAKER_07Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Look at you two.
SPEAKER_07Here's what's interesting too, and we'll get back to your all your services you have, is that you have done what my vision was for Big Dog was we're stuck right in the middle of Springfield and St. Louis. Yeah. Big metro, almost big metro, but you either got to drive an hour that way or an hour that way. And I wanted to bring the best of both here. Yes. Yeah, I think that's how many she's brought from west coast to east coast to here from the city.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, really. If you sink in between Springfield and say it's us, it's you. It's us. That's right. Yeah, it's all yeah, all businesses.
SPEAKER_07And so that, so what's your most popular service that you have at Willow Lane Spa?
SPEAKER_05It probably it's hydrofacial, but I'll tell you, people love the head spa. So we'll just segue right into that. Okay, offer head spa services. Yeah, what is that?
SPEAKER_07I'm intrigued. Because if it has anything to do with this, oh, I'm all about that.
SPEAKER_05That's exactly what it has to do. His foot's gonna start going like this. Some legitimate over here. But yeah, head spa was one of the next services that we brought on. How can I explain it? If you've seen any of our videos, you basically you just you lay down on a table, you get to relax, your head is elevated over a kind of a sham fancy shampoo bowl, if you will. But there's like a halo water treatment that goes over your head, and then your technician will just get in there and they'll that's not the hydrofacial. That's not the hydrofacial.
SPEAKER_07So we saw when we toured your facility last week.
SPEAKER_05That's not I saw the Yeah, you saw the table, just you didn't get to see the table in action. Correct. I'll have you back in. Boy, that is a real and all the pressure points. Yeah. So not only is it relaxing though, but your technician, they're trained cosmetologists and a cosmetologist and aesthetician both do the service. But they're just they're trained to understand the scalp and the situations that are going on in the hair. We have a special camera that'll go down into the scalp, and you can actually see the follicle. You can see what's ailing your scalp and what you need to work on to so it's relaxing and it's beneficial both. So for growth helps, yeah, it helps with everything. Yeah, breakage, hair health, itching, dandruff, oily scalp, hair loss. Maybe I just said that. But that's okay.
SPEAKER_07You can say it twice.
SPEAKER_05It could it just it helps to eliminate those things. No, look, I already was like this.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, Caitlin's mouth, wide open, drop. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_05What made you And see I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_07So this is good info to what made you want to bring the head spa service to your Willow Lane spa?
SPEAKER_05Because it was popping on the East and West Coast. So I just I knew about it. Forward thinker. Yeah. Yeah. So I just we weren't sure. We thought it could be fad-ish because you never know a lot of time. Sometimes it's a temporary fad, but I don't think it's going to be. So I'd say it's our most, and in fact, our most popular service is the head spa facial combination. Right. Where you get the head spa treatment and a mini facial as well. And then hydrofacial, while it's for your face, there's also hydroscalp. So they can take that service. I'm pretending I have the wand in my hand, but there's a device that you use to pull the impurities out of your skin. You can also take that into the scalp as well. So it's just it goes down deeper into the surface and pulls out the gunk that is creating your ailments. And then we go back in with a series of the appropriate serums. And I like how you said appropriate because it's different for everyone.
SPEAKER_07I was gonna say, so yeah, it is different for everyone.
SPEAKER_05Yes, and everything is customized because it won't work. We have to like it has to be specific.
SPEAKER_07I mean, like the grays going on over here.
SPEAKER_05I did I didn't even tell you I have two new, I've never had gray hair.
SPEAKER_07Hold on.
SPEAKER_05No, I thought grey well, it's grown its place.
SPEAKER_07Hold on. I never pulled the one in my head. Lies.
SPEAKER_05You're scrolling through social media. You see all these products to clear your scalp. Yes. You don't know what works and what doesn't. It helps to have a professional to guide you. Especially right here in town. And you can customize to use. Yes, and I hate to say it, and I'm going to, but like the products that you're using from Walmart, Walgreens could be causing even more damage. Irritation here's a good thing.
SPEAKER_07We're going to do a quick segue on how people get a hold of your. So Willow Lane Spa, they offers facials, hydrofacials, airbrush tanning, yes, head spa and salon services, and more with their Willows 365 membership. True. And private events, they provide that daily dose of rejuvenation. Just a healthy home does. When you're being built that wellness focused space, treat yourself to some self-care at Willowlane Spa. You can find more about them at WillowlaneSpa.com. Correct. Or call them today at 217-275-2263. Correct. Uh or you can email them at hello at Willowspa.com.
SPEAKER_05Indeed, you can. Or you can message us on any of our platforms.
SPEAKER_07Their socials are slip into their DMs, as I like to say. Slip into their DMs in the proper appropriate way.
SPEAKER_05So another thing I would like to bring up.
SPEAKER_07Oh, here she goes.
SPEAKER_05I because you just said they can people can spend a whole day there.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_05What about like wedding parties? Is that like a popular thing that you Yes, that's that's something we started to offer last year, so we'll have uh wedding parties. I'll just read it. Yeah, it can be. It's up to them.
unknownSure.
SPEAKER_05We customize that too. So sometimes we'll shut down the spa and the it's for the brides or the bride party. No, all the brides at once. And then we also um my mind's turning a little bit here because I want to go back to your expertise in Arizona that you brought. Guys, you're watching on camera. We do ours and girls.
SPEAKER_06When they're children, dogs, cats.
SPEAKER_05I mean Crystal.
SPEAKER_07We let's all we will go. We're just like whatever works.
SPEAKER_05Crystal is a grandmother.
SPEAKER_07I'm gonna be a grandpa in August.
SPEAKER_05Okay. I didn't know if that was out and about or not. What? We told me. You I didn't drop Congratulations. You get all gone. Are we allowed to say what it is?
SPEAKER_07No, today's the 20 week. So they're actually going for the big three-hour let's take pictures.
SPEAKER_05I didn't know if we were saying it out loud on the website.
SPEAKER_07So it dropped on today's podcast that yes, I'm a grandpa. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Oh yeah. She's slept since then, folks. It's okay.
SPEAKER_05Oh, but the reason why I was saying Chris was a grandma. You guys, what grandma do you know?
SPEAKER_07Squirrel.
SPEAKER_05That looks like this. Look at this skin. It's proof in the pudding right here.
SPEAKER_07And we're not gonna say ages. We don't do that.
SPEAKER_05No, we don't. No, we can't. I'm gonna be 50 this weekend. And I feel like awesome.
SPEAKER_07That is great.
SPEAKER_05You guys are like the same. Is she 52? Yeah, 50 as well. Yes. Okay. Beautiful skin. And you've you've done it naturally. Like we said, proof and the pudding.
SPEAKER_07That's right.
SPEAKER_05That's kind of a good thing. Tell us about your skincare.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. How long have you taken your skincare as in I know I need to do something, right?
SPEAKER_05Sometimes skincare isn't always positive. When I say that I've been interested in skincare for a long time, but actually only went in, di dove into the education part of it to become an esthetician. I guess it's been six years ago now. Okay. Oh, okay. But when I was in my early 20s, 20, and I had my firstborn, something happened, hormones, but I just I started to break out. And then it just it got worse and it got worse. And then I had the baby and it got worse. And it just it's a big reacting, right? Yeah, there's four different stages of acne, and it started off at one, and then stage four goes into cystic acne, which is actually incredibly painful. It takes weeks for one lesion to even go away. It hurts even better. It's a fancy word for big zids.
SPEAKER_06That's right.
SPEAKER_05I have one that hurts right here. But you can't see it. But that I struggled with that acne for 20 years. And I would go see aestheticians, dermatologists. I even went as far as Accutane, which is an extremely potent medicine that's so horrible for your entire body. That didn't work. And your mind. And your mind. Fortunately, I I don't know. Maybe I'm not going to be able to do that. Doesn't it cut as side depression? It can. It definitely can. So yeah, I mean do anything to try to get rid of it. But you absolutely will. And it's your face. It's your face. First impression, it's what everyone sees. You can cover up your whole body, but change your confidence as well if you depend on how you will, and especially as an adult, I feel like it's expected as a teen, right? You're gonna grow out of it, but then when you become an adult and you grow into it, yeah.
SPEAKER_07So let's dive in that a little deeper. So did you feel your confidence level less?
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_07Because of the absolutely, absolutely.
SPEAKER_05And I gotta tell you, I'm so grateful social media wasn't even a thing when I was going through most of that because that would have been really tough.
SPEAKER_07Sure. Right. Sure. Yeah. So was is that what made you think maybe got into it a little bit more because of it?
SPEAKER_05I was forced to learn about it because I was trying to solve my own problems. So that that that turned into a lot of self-education. When we the first time we moved, we had gone to Washington State. I'm re-establishing relationships, trying to find my esthetician. I went, I found her. She, the only thing she did for me is something that no other esthetician had, and she put me on a series of multivitamins. My skin was clear in two weeks, and my skin had been clear ever since.
SPEAKER_07Wow.
SPEAKER_05So really just it's it's a lot of troubleshooting. It's teamwork, it's finding your person, it's sticking with what you're doing. It's continuing to use the products at home. 80% of your skincare success is gonna be what you're doing at home.
SPEAKER_07Are you still in supplements today?
SPEAKER_05I don't really take the supplements anymore. I still take a probiotic because I just think that's critical. I agree. I agree. I would put everyone on a probiotic. Same. You're gonna lay on my table and I'm gonna be like, take a probiotic. I think it's really important. And I truly think that for me it was a gut issue.
SPEAKER_07Sure.
SPEAKER_05You know, but again, inside out. Like you gotta heal from the inside out. I mean no matter what it is.
SPEAKER_07Grant Cardone has the 10x health division where I've done the my supplements I take every morning are microbeads, where they are done on my genetic makeup and help supplement what my DNA is missing.
SPEAKER_05I need that. Well, they probably all need that. No, it's and that's the thing.
SPEAKER_07It's literally so most blood work that's done, they do 30 to 40 type tracking things or whatever in your body. This one did 77. Now it's like 120. They literally are breaking down what is wrong with you so that they can what have you inherited from your parents?
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_07Bio, whatever. Sure. And then the microbeads are actually coated in wax, different layers of wax, so they will dissolve further where they need to get to in the body.
SPEAKER_05I want to talk about this more.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, no, it's truly 10x health, it's phenomenal. Um literally, my packs come and say, made for Chris. They're made for me.
SPEAKER_05Amazing. So and then so it just that must be what Elena takes too. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_07Elena Grant every day. Yeah, they're taking that stuff. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05It's really helped her.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, it is. Because again, it's you take the one-a-day vitamin for women or the one-a-day vitamin, it's just like you said it's not customized. And it's not for everybody. It's not covered. They are for me.
SPEAKER_05Customized for you.
SPEAKER_07They are made for me. And literally, I have a packet that's that thick on what I should avoid food-wise because it affects my health and my diet. Literally, everything.
SPEAKER_05But that does. I'm glad we talked about this because the probiotic, all this stuff, your problems like come out in your skin.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_05It's stress, it's hormones. I try so hard to regulate these hormones.
SPEAKER_07And or genetic. I mean, there are some things having growing into uh acne, they are born with it, they have it all their life because it's genetics. There's some things to help subside the flare-ups. But yeah. And I'm not sure. So then we can talk more about 10x health off off air too.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. No. So walk us through a little bit about the atmosphere. When someone comes to Willow Lane Spa, the atmosphere walking through how do you make it a sanctuary sanctuary for your clients? I know which room I saw, which is cool.
SPEAKER_05It's I don't know, to me, it's just easy. It's what we do. But I agree. Everyone who partners with us is such a critical part of our growth. We're such an it's such an honor. Anyone who decides to even come for one service, whether they sign up for the one year VIP or just come in for the day. But no, they just they come in, they're greeted by name, like they're Yes. Smile. Yeah, like you're part of Willow, whether you want to be or not.
SPEAKER_07Hard rock music playing and all that in the background.
SPEAKER_05Of a quiet day, we might switch up the sound.
SPEAKER_07But so atmosphere, and I know when you brought us through when we toured your facility, I know there was a uh a waiting room, an area that's more Zen.
SPEAKER_05Waiting room. We call it the relaxation room.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, exactly. The relaxation room, some water.
SPEAKER_05So you'll be carted in. We will take you carted in.
SPEAKER_07We're gonna get on a wheelchair. We're gonna get our gurney.
SPEAKER_05We actually got some of the scent on the pizza.
SPEAKER_07If it feels really good, I'm gonna be gurnieed out. I was gonna say I'll be jello.
SPEAKER_05You're walking in, we cart you out.
SPEAKER_07I love it.
SPEAKER_05But no, we take them to the relaxation room. We have some light snacks, some refreshments. They're welcome to relax in there. Sometimes we'll start the consultation in there, just depending on what the day is going, what the client needs, what they're in there for. Then the technician will come get them. We'll start their service. And depending on whether they're having one or multiple services done.
SPEAKER_07Do most people get multiple services at a time?
SPEAKER_05It's not uncommon, no. Yes. Some will do a facial and a head spa or facial. It's a really because what we fix faces, we will destroy your hair. So we can just send them back to the salon. They'll have like headband hair. Oh, yeah. And that's another thing. They have the salon and the full service.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Yeah. Which for us guys, it means they're going to cut your hair.
SPEAKER_05Yes. You're going to be able to do that.
SPEAKER_07You style it if you style.
SPEAKER_05Wash it.
SPEAKER_07So cut it.
SPEAKER_05You could have a beer and a bourbon with your a beer and a bourbon. A beer or a bourbon.
SPEAKER_07So I actually go through. I actually go to a salon. I may not look a nail because I'm due for one, but I go to a salon. I don't go to just the barber shop. Yeah. I used to cut my own hair forever and it probably shows, but no, I do because I like the way my hair needs to look for what I do.
SPEAKER_05I think it's important to care about how you look. I really do.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah. One thing I want to say about coming in there is, Crystal, you have such a soft, inviting, warm personality. Like you're not spinsificated. Let's see if Kirsten agrees. I was just getting ready to go. Okay. She's the same way. Yeah. She's just sweet, man. And then the other little girl that was that you guys are training for a massage.
SPEAKER_07You know, you make yourself even old when you call a little girl.
SPEAKER_05She's younger than us. Is she 20? She's probably in her early 20s. Well, that's 30.
unknownOh, eight.
SPEAKER_07What how 38? What did you say, Caitlin? Almost 38? 37? How long? How many years at 37? I'm teasing. Teasing.
SPEAKER_05Did you see my wave? What?
SPEAKER_07One time I was like, Yeah, your mom was 39. How many years in a row?
SPEAKER_05We couldn't figure out how my mom was when she had me.
SPEAKER_07You're gonna be 40 and your mom's still 39.
SPEAKER_05Right. And actually I'm 20. And my mom's as most moms are.
SPEAKER_07Exactly, right? Right. As all women should be put on a pedestal. Absolutely. Worship because we wouldn't be here without them. I'll just say that. It's true.
SPEAKER_05Love you. Yes.
SPEAKER_07I'm not a test tube kid. Come on.
SPEAKER_05So that's right.
SPEAKER_07Now can you tell I was a raised in a house full of women?
SPEAKER_05Yes, I can. Now I'm gonna go back a squirrel one more time because there are a squirrel that I will forget. And I gotta say, the consultation part. I have been to spas where they just you you just book it and then they just take you back. They don't know what I and I'll be trying to tell 'em. I don't think they care. Not one bit. Overall? That's what I'm saying. You guys, that's very helpful. We we genuinely want you to be on whatever that path is. If you did just come in for the day to relax, thank you. Thank you for taking care of you. Thank you for supporting us. But if you signed up for the one year package because you genuinely want goals and you genuinely want to get the products you need and get the results that you want.
SPEAKER_07And that's the Willow 365. Amazing.
SPEAKER_05That is the Willow 365.
SPEAKER_07I just want to make sure that our listeners understand that.
SPEAKER_05We'll be creating a hair package around that 365 as well. It's in the works, dropping in April. That's a really good idea.
SPEAKER_07You heard it here, right? You heard it right here.
SPEAKER_05You did hear it right here.
SPEAKER_07New Willow 365 hair package.
SPEAKER_05We're growing your hair back.
SPEAKER_07I'm gonna have to take up a minute. Oh, she's gonna do a product, product job, product job.
SPEAKER_05They offer makeup. Who's the makeup artist? You who or certainly not me. I like a very basic look myself. Natural.
SPEAKER_06So beautiful.
SPEAKER_05So beautiful. But today is the most makeup I wear. Like this is full-blown makeup for me today. But gorgeous. Yeah, simple. Elizabeth does the makeup. There you go. So here we go. Oh, so she's actually gonna apply. I want everyone excited. And we know that sometimes she just likes hilarious.
SPEAKER_07She can talk her and put it on shoes. Look at her.
SPEAKER_05I'm a real influencer now, guys. She's like, you're hired. But seriously, this is the flush. This is what you like to the best. I love it. I've worn it all weekend.
SPEAKER_07That's right. Oh, I got a perfect pick of that. That was great. Oh my gosh. Yes.
SPEAKER_05Now look at that. And it's like a it's not like too sticky, you guys.
SPEAKER_07Zoom in on that too when we put that online.
SPEAKER_05Look at these hot lips. I don't like it too much. You know, to where it gets stuck to your first lipstick that you put on and you don't like it, and it clumps up and this doesn't do it. And I've tested it all weekend. Now next time, when Crystal comes back, I will bring the other lip gloss.
SPEAKER_07So the question is, does your husband Chris like it?
SPEAKER_05That's a really loaded question. No, he loves how it looks, but he doesn't like when I apply anything to my lips because then I say, Oh, you you You're gonna mess up my makeup. They're not kissable right now.
SPEAKER_07See, yeah. I'm just like, why?
SPEAKER_05You don't ruin it. I just applied it. This costs money, man.
SPEAKER_07Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_05And it feels good. It feels good on my lips. Amazing. 1010 review.
SPEAKER_071010 review. Give it a 10. 10x.
SPEAKER_05Oh anytime I can get a 10x in there, I'm giving a 10x in there.
SPEAKER_07See, here we're catchy. We'll even do this.
SPEAKER_05It's catchy. Those are so nice.
SPEAKER_07Those are nice.
SPEAKER_05So makeup, she also has her own skincare line. It's not my own, but we do. They have their epicine. Talk about those a bit. Yeah, we carry Epicurine. It's a very I actually used to work for Epicurine. I think that's why Caitlin thinks it's my skincare line. I've always looked, she probably told me that one time, and I've always said this.
SPEAKER_07Now you're gonna be like, she came into me. We gotta get crystal in here. She's got her own skincare line. Oh my gosh, she's just great. She's got a good remote. She was just bouncing off. She's we gotta get crystal in here. I'm like, always get crystal.
SPEAKER_05We have our own skincare in the spa.
SPEAKER_07I love it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but it's a very clean line. It's leafing bunny certified. They use sustainable products. It's not 100% organic, but sometimes that's not always doable, but they stay very transparent about that. If it's not organic, it's highly sustainable. They're an extremely ethical company. So I feel confident with those ingredients going on our client's skin. I use their products, so on my skin as well. But quite a lot of people.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. How many people truly worry about if it's all organic? Not enough. That's what I mean.
SPEAKER_05That was a good question.
SPEAKER_07Because most people, I don't buy makeup. Sorry. This is all natural. Sorry.
SPEAKER_05Do you want to try this? Fabulous.
SPEAKER_07I'm good.
SPEAKER_05I think it might be your color.
SPEAKER_07My lips are plump enough. I don't need to emphasize them. But most people are in that Walmart frame of mind.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. You don't know what you don't know. And that's what's available to us mostly around here. It's Walmart and Walgreens.
SPEAKER_07And that's the oh, I need a quick lip gloss. Oop, I need some foundation. I need some blush. I need eyeliner. I need whatever, right? Mascara. And you're not going to be able to do that. See, look at eye now, Dolwin.
SPEAKER_05You're doing really good. You don't know what's seeping into your I actually just watched this documentary last night. The plastic detox, it just came on. Oh you see, I've watched it too. My daughter's not going to leave the room. It's so bad.
SPEAKER_07You're talking about like the plastics that are in the bottled water you drink and all that.
SPEAKER_05Literally everything. And everything.
SPEAKER_07And that sun is killing us. Putting that into the water that you're going to drink.
SPEAKER_05Yes. It's in baby formula. It is. Yeah. Baby food. I mean, I have breastfed, but it's hurting my feelings.
SPEAKER_07It's all good. Okay, on the high note.
SPEAKER_05But I'm just saying this is why it's important. Yeah, on a high organic our skin is our largest organ. So the lotion putting on your skin when you go outside, the free radicals, when you're not wearing SPF, when you're not protecting your skin from the sun. Okay, I'm glad you said that. It's your shell. People take care of it. And guys, if you want to be tan and start young, you guys. Start young. I accidentally got thrown into skincare, but I genuinely believe though, because I started so young and I was trying to solve these problems so early, it was beneficial to maturity. It wasn't intentional, but I think it actually it's just proof that it genuinely, if you're using the right things and you're putting good stuff in and on your body, it's beneficial. What's crazy because you went through a hard time within spinal, but it's led you to this dream. You're here. I've a loyal am and beautiful skin. You've done naturally. And I'm looking at my eyes, I'm just like, Yeah, she's enamored.
SPEAKER_07And Caitlin's letting moisturizing. Caitlin's letting her shoulder talk to the microphone instead of her lips because she was literally leaning into she's so enamored with Crystal. I love it. I love it. She loves I told you she loves guests. She gets excited. I do, she gets tired of me all the time.
SPEAKER_05First time I met Caitlin, I was just like, I gotta work with this girl. When I'd seen she was doing cast things, I'm like, hey. Oh, which by the way, I'm showing my age because apparently now kids do this because no one ever held a phone.
SPEAKER_07Oh, I do this so they can.
SPEAKER_05I do this. Wait, hold on a second.
SPEAKER_07Because hello. Oh, do you?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Wait, you're an old person. I will, I'm crying that they do this. You're right, because they don't hold a phone. They speak her. I don't know. Pay attention. Maybe I'm wrong.
SPEAKER_07I don't know. Strictly just ear. I have I wear earbuds all the time. All the time. Sometimes I go home and I forget that I have them in. I go to bed and I'm like, oh crap, my earbuds aren't. Yeah, yeah. I roll over. I'm like, oh, wait, it's not in my ear. Oh, it's my earbuds.
SPEAKER_05I'm like, I don't know why I can't wear earbuds. I'm like scared that like I'm gonna get run over or something if I'm outside that I'm not gonna hear a truck. Look, Kirsten's not in her head.
SPEAKER_07She yeah, I literally I can wear these, I can wear these, one in each ear, and I can have a conversation going on in my head, and I can hear and have a conversation outside of my head too. Not just my inner voice.
SPEAKER_03Major multitasking. I was gonna say 10x. You're a 10x listener.
SPEAKER_07When you crystal 10X on the air. Look at her. Yeah. Hey, speaking of 10x, where do you see the vision for Willow Lane Spa in the next few years and beyond?
SPEAKER_05So right now we are looking at expansion. I guess we started this business here in Litchfield, but I actually like multiple locations in some larger suburban areas. Anytime we travel, we're always scoping out possibilities in larger areas. So anyone who's joined us early, they're at an advantage to maybe be at the forefront of a larger opportunity. But I'm always exploring, we've had podcasting in mind. We've been chit-chatting it. Right. Up any type of forward growth movement. Sure. Coaching's a possibility. Education, I'd love to partner with other businesses, especially some others in the industry. Like it's a little wide.
SPEAKER_07Collaboration is the new currency. You have to collaborate in today's industry. You just have to. Even if it's collaborating with someone outside of your space.
SPEAKER_05Exactly.
SPEAKER_07Doesn't have to be in the spawn wellness space. It can be outside your space and collaborate because you never know. So I'm going to throw a little nugget your way. Please do. Or a grenade, however you want to be it.
SPEAKER_06He was actually getting ready to go too.
SPEAKER_07I was. I was going to flick that to you. So everyone knows I'm a business coach as well, and I have some clients that we coach that are in the wellness space as well. And we have some things that they came up with, which is pretty awesome. But you should offer because there's some facilities there in Litchfield that have a lot of employees. So go to the corporate and say, hey, we'd like to offer a wellness package for your employees at a discounted rate on the Willow 365. And this is what it'd look like. Are your wheels turning?
SPEAKER_05Like those big companies, almost like ConnorMan. It's in there. We just have it's like it's time. Had you thought about that then? Yes. Oh definitely.
SPEAKER_07You can do a lot of life. Really? It's already clicking. We're close in age. I'm a little older than she. I just had a birthday yesterday. So happy be laden.
SPEAKER_05Oh my god.
SPEAKER_07Oh Lord, she just goes, What?
SPEAKER_05How's that confetti?
SPEAKER_07If you get on your social, you would know that.
SPEAKER_05And I showed up here with nothing. It's all good.
SPEAKER_07Your presence is gift enough, Caitlin.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_07It's all good. Happiest belated. Thank you. You're really big. Do you want me to early?
SPEAKER_05Thank you. I can sing you.
SPEAKER_07Please no. Please no Spanish? No, I'm good. No.
SPEAKER_05I you know, I did I already did the counting in Spanish and French last time.
SPEAKER_07Don't do the French thing. No. Age thing. Count to 10 in French.
SPEAKER_00Cat say set.
SPEAKER_07Oh, you can stop there. I told her in one of the podcasts I don't want to know what she's doing to the cat. Because as it led up to the cat, I'm like, oh cat's pass. I'm done. We're done. We're out of this. We're done.
SPEAKER_05I'm spoken myself. That was a lot of things. That's good. Did you take French in high school? I did. I did too. Who was your instructor? Mrs. Bridges. Okay, no. And I actually tested into advanced in college. Wow. And I wanted to be a French teacher. I learned some other things in college. I bet you did. It's beneficial. You know what I'm saying? Sorry.
SPEAKER_07So are there any new offerings that are going to be coming to Willow Lane Spa that you aren't currently offering?
SPEAKER_05Yes, massage. We'll have massage going on in full body massage in Angela. That's big time. That's our next launch, and then the Hydro Scalp is our next launch, which is hydrofacial for your scalp. But we already likely talked about that.
SPEAKER_07Body. Full body. Yes. Like I said when I was there before, when I travel, I will seek out the hotels that have spas and offer full body massages.
SPEAKER_05Especially if you're traveling, though. That's easy.
SPEAKER_07I when I oh so my best I'm gonna give my best spa and experience was I went to Charlotte for an event, two-day event. The hotel we went to had a just amazing spa. Every night the turn down service, there'd be a bottle of mineral water for us.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yes.
SPEAKER_07And so I scheduled a spa. It was or a massage. It was an hour and 20 minutes. And they said, okay, before you come down the spa, go sit in the sauna first, and then come in, do the spa, and then plan to go spend another 20 minutes in the sauna when you're done. The steam room. And literally I could not see, I would not be able to see you in that steam room. It was that thick. Nice. And literally, I was meeting a group of other business owners later that night to go out to dinner. And I walked up and one of them go, man, you look like a million bucks. Literally out of the blue. I literally just met this guy at this event. He goes, You look like a million bucks. And like, I feel like I'm Saint.
SPEAKER_05It's you're rejuvenating.
SPEAKER_07Exactly. And so I am all for the full body massage that experience that just the reset, right? Yes. And it's not draining, it actually recharges you.
SPEAKER_05It does. People think that it's maybe of course it's for real relaxation, but there's a lot of techniques. Oh many health benefits. That's what I'm saying. There's so many pushing toxins. Oh my goodness, yeah.
SPEAKER_07Because you've because I drank literally in between the hour and 20 minutes of massage, I would they have me drink water, right? To stay hydrated and just, yeah. And they're like, do this and just drink.
SPEAKER_05And it was just like I'm so glad you said that actually, because that's true. For me, that warms my heart so much is to watch the client come in, they're stressed, their ear shoulders rip up in their ears. And they think they get their service and they come out, they're like, they're dropping their threchonolence, can't form sentences.
SPEAKER_07And no, they didn't have a stroke, folks.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they're just they're so relaxed, and that just that fills my heart. That's truly I have a background in yoga too. Like I I am very passionate about wellness as an overall whole. So just when someone's taking the time to care for themselves, you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others. I believe that with my whole heart. 100%.
SPEAKER_07So how do you incorporate the the holistic approach, body, mind, and soul, into the spa service?
SPEAKER_04I think it just naturally happens. It's not even deliberate.
SPEAKER_07It's just Because the atmosphere and how you do it, it just flows, right?
SPEAKER_05I think you're more just part of it. That's it just happens naturally. It's not even work.
SPEAKER_07So how many team members do you have there?
SPEAKER_05There's six of us.
SPEAKER_07Excellent.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_07And are they and you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but are they team members as an employed team members or they're employees. Okay. Not 1099. They're they're not coming in renting a space for you to use your facility. Okay. All right. Because I know some salons they rent their trailers.
SPEAKER_05They do, and I know there's some pros and cons to that. Just I've also deep dive into a lot of deep business education. It's just it seems that W 2 is the best opportunity for employees. I know there's pros and cons in everyone.
SPEAKER_07You can create that family atmosphere because they are truly your holding a paycheck. Not using that again, but that's it's just that more.
SPEAKER_05I also feel yeah, for a spa and your services, it probably makes more sense to do what you're doing. I'm very comfortable with the way we've chosen to do it for now.
SPEAKER_07How many more team members do you feel that you can house at your current location?
SPEAKER_05We would definitely love to have another stylist. I mean, we we could probably house one more of each, but my priorities for my team to be fully booked. So as soon as they are at a space where they don't want to take on any more clients, that's when I would like to entertain bringing on more staff. But creating the night spot. Or the night spot. I think there's going to be some deep conversations about that. I think so too. And I can't like do it.
SPEAKER_07So I mean, what are your hours?
SPEAKER_05So we just recently changed our hours. Now we're closed on Mondays. Okay. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we are 10 to 5. Thursday, 12 to 7. Monday, 10 to 4.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_05And then we say we're 10 to 2 on Saturday, but like the evenings and the weekends, we're working with our clients.
SPEAKER_07And that's where I was heading about that night spa, because you have business owners that are the real hustlers that are out there grinding from Four in the morning until whenever we slip it in. Sometimes when I used to go get massages, I literally would try to fit in the middle of the day, then I'm crap the rest of the day. I know it's tough.
SPEAKER_05And then you feel amazing and you gotta go back to work. Right. My chair. Or I just gotta live my best life after my massage. Yeah. Day daytime's good. We have a nice daytime crowd. We'll take evening appointments by request. I had per selfishly myself, just because I don't want to work evenings and weekends. I set the hours up to be more daytime, but some of the girls they're completely fine with working evenings and Saturdays. They also know that's people work. That's when their availability is that late night Thursday. We do. And then you can always ask for a late night.
SPEAKER_07Well, and you also, as the business owner and the matriarch of the wellness family.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Thank you.
SPEAKER_05I like that. I like that too.
SPEAKER_07Make sure that if there are late night appointments, that your team member feels safe with whatever person's coming in. Absolutely. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Even if we're there, there's a chance if the door's locked, it's for our safety. So please don't be offended.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. No, and that's good. What finally, so what advice would you give someone who's just starting on their wellness journey? Besides college. Just start 275-2263. Say that number right?
SPEAKER_05Listen, I don't even I don't know the number. I'm always like, what's our number again?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05I didn't even have to look at our number in the 80s. I don't remember it. Why is that so dry?
unknownSure.
SPEAKER_07What do they need to start?
SPEAKER_05Just start. Just start. Give us a call. Come for one appointment. If you don't know, we will help guide you. Just make the phone call, just start.
SPEAKER_07And that's the thing because I use that in my coaching too, because it's the starting that stops us.
SPEAKER_05Starting's the hardest part. Showing up the state. The initiation is the hardest. It is.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Yeah. It's taking that first step. And I tell people that all the time. And so you're saying the same advice. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_05And there's such an array of information out there that people don't know what to trust. So I'm glad that we have Crystal in here, somebody we know you're not a face. I'm genuinely passionate. Yeah, you're actually what humans are like. You have lots of information to give out. That's why you'd be on a podcast. We got plenty of tape.
SPEAKER_07Oh, wait, we're not on tape. Yeah, oh the 80s.
SPEAKER_05Oh, actually, this is the pound key in the 80s. Oh, I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_07That's right. Party line.
SPEAKER_05Home beak. Okay. But anyway, that's what I'm saying. I think it's very helpful to where someone would have know exactly where to focus on their wellness journey. We will get you going.
SPEAKER_07That's right. That's awesome. Crystal, this has been fabulous.
SPEAKER_05This has been so much fun. We've been talking about doing this. I'm so excited to be here.
SPEAKER_07You're natural.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you really are. You really are.
SPEAKER_07I'm excited with skincare. Did you just call her a hot grandma?
SPEAKER_05She is. She's a gilf. She's a guilf and you know it. You're saying is she? Looking up. You're so saying.
SPEAKER_07Uh-huh. Now we're all getting red faced, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, no. This is my this is okay. I'm blushing. If I am like this at 50, my goals are hit, right? Yeah. Already done. I want to be that tiny too. Can I do you have something for that? Well then small. I'm just not yet, but just work so hard you don't have time to eat. Yeah. I'll run back to the book.
