SPEAKER_04Hey, welcome back to Designing Building Mid-Illinois One Home at a Time. This is our Realtor segment with our 10X partner, First Choice Realty Pro with Lydia and Lisa. Now we are we're using today just kind of like let's talk about things that have happened in the past at showings and closings or are weird incidents or whatever little ghost maybe. Who knows, right?
SPEAKER_06So everybody knows, like I I love like spooky scary story times, but also just weird incidences. That this is like a big thing. So I think by you us talking about this, it's gonna get gonna go far. Especially Lisa, you've been doing this for 19 years. What is one thing that maybe that you can think of that you can remember that maybe was a little bit weird that happened to you showing?
SPEAKER_07This is when I first really started out. I walked into a home, I could feel something that wasn't like an air. I was just uh it was just a yucky feeling. And so, and the further I got into the house, it just didn't feel feel good. And so I thought, it's just you, it's just you, you know.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_07And uh so I waited for the people to get there. And when they walked in, they felt the same thing. And so uh they were like, We don't wanna, we don't wanna go any further, and we're ready to go. And I said, Me too.
SPEAKER_04What did you feel?
SPEAKER_07What what was it was just like there was just a heaviness. I was just a heaviness. Did you even walk through the house? I went up, oh I started turning on lights, and I kept thinking, Oh, Lisa. And the further I got into it, you know, it was just that heavy, and I was just like, maybe I got up on the wrong side of the bed, whatever. Right, yeah, right. And now, I mean, as a Christian, there's demonic things out there. No, I was just gonna say that. Yeah, yeah. And so I was like, okay, but you know, God gave us that discernment for a reason, and so we gotta use it. And so anyway, I thought, well, get that second, you know. Yeah. And they came in and they were like, mm, no. That's wild. Yeah. That they felt it too. The only time that ever really happened was at that, at that house. And I remember the house.
SPEAKER_06And I wonder, you know, you wonder like what happened there. Because you can feel stuff like that.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Yeah. You do, you wonder. I mean, it was it's an older home. Um, probably, I bet it was close to a hundred years old. So you don't know what is gone on. Stories, right?
SPEAKER_06And you also don't know what's could be buried underneath there, guys. Like that. My parents' house is built on an old Native American burial ground. Wow. And now my mom audit garner. Yeah, uh-huh, yeah. And my mom has seen several things walking in the night. Really? Oh, yeah. And she I know I'm laughing because you guys like she's always seen stuff. So this is why I'm so into this too, because I've been like raised like this. I do not open my eyes to it. I'm too scared. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07No, you close that out. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04She's like, I'm out of this conversation. I'm not there.
SPEAKER_07No, I'm no. Would I do I go and look for that? No, but do I have the sense to turn around and walk away?
SPEAKER_04People that that have they're not true mediums, but there are people that have that sensory about them that they can feel that other plane of existence. And, you know, that's when again, so I'll dive a little bit. When I was younger, we lived in a house, my parents got divorced, a lot of just bad energy.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, we had found that the house we bought, this was out in Indiana, that a 98-year-old man had passed away, he had a heart attack on the living room floor and he died in the home, right?
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04You know, I don't want to know that stuff. I'm a kid, I don't want to know that crap, right? Well, when the divorce happened and all that negativity and all that stuff was happening, it started rearing its head. He was fine with the loving family that was living there, apparently, but then with all this negativity, he started becoming known. Oh so, and I started freaking out and told my mom, like, I'm scared, I don't want to be here anymore, right? Yeah. And she's like, Look, if you just go into your room and say, This is my room, don't come in here. Yeah, they will not bother you if they're a friendly entity, right? And and the problem was, or not the problem, I guess the problem, my bedroom was the full depth of the house, front to back, ranch style home, front to back. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then you had to go through my room to get to the garage. It was kind of like a bonus room type thing, but I turned it into my bedroom.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And so apparently it would stay in the garage. And because I said it stayed in the garage, it wouldn't come in the rest of the house because I created a barrier for it.
SPEAKER_07But I would say my parents my home in the name of Jesus, and you are not welcome. Yeah. That is all demons flee in the name of Jesus.
SPEAKER_04And so I don't want to tell too much, but my mom, when they got divorced, she low the kids because she was afraid she's gonna lose us and other kids. So she let all the kids for all her friends come over to the house and stuff. My sisters were older. Right, right. Well, one of one of my sister's friends, this guy had injured his hand at work really bad that day. I mean, like we was killing him there, and they were at the house, and I was gone. I was out, I think, out here visiting my grandparents in Illinois at the time. So he was free in the whole house, right? And so they were sitting there, and they were sitting like we are in a circle right now, and my sister saw that his face kind of changed part way, and then it just went through him, and all the pain was gone out of his hand. It was just really weird. I just got goosebumps. Okay, so anyway, that's the type of stuff. So I am in tune to the stuff that's a good one.
SPEAKER_03Well, maybe he was an angel.
SPEAKER_04So so I'm in tune to that type of stuff, and I agree with the stuff. I've been around some negative crap that I'm like, stay away.
SPEAKER_07Stay away, yeah. And so because the Bible says don't mess in that. Don't mess in any of that. Oh no.
SPEAKER_04So when I when I when you know as a kid, they always had the Ouija boards and stuff like that. And mom's like, don't mess with that stuff. Why is it in the house? Get it out of here, blah, blah, blah. My sister's a bull. I'm like, oh, look at this stuff.
SPEAKER_07No way. I did it all the time. Stay all away. Yeah. I'm not asking for nothing. We did it all the time when we were little. No, I'm a weenie. I'm you're a weenie.
SPEAKER_04So, and here's the thing, though, when I got married, right? And had my new wife come to the house. I live in a house that's 139 years old. It was built by my great-great-grandfather. It's seen some things. The front parlor of the house is where you would have the casket if you have a death in the family, right? That's right.
SPEAKER_06They put it like on the kitchen table, wouldn't they?
SPEAKER_04No, nothing. Not this house. It has a separate parallel. Oh, okay, okay. So if you come in the front, big part, you're right to the parlor that's separated from the rest of the house. Anyway. So, but yeah, so I, you know, make sure, but my house is very comfortable and and there's nothing, there's no feelings or anything like that. And this, it's just I can feel that, and you obviously can feel that too. And you're like, I'm out. Lydia's like, I'm out.
SPEAKER_06I don't do good with this stuff. Well, what about this recent movie? I just want to ask, like, and I can't even remember what it's called, but it has Amanda that Amanda's cipher. Oh, with Sydney's house. No? Oh, no, but that's really good.
SPEAKER_03That's really good.
SPEAKER_06That was so good. And they're made, I guess they're making a second one. But so her and the husband, they get shown the house. He loves it. It's up on a hill.
SPEAKER_04So it does involve real estate. I love it. Okay. Let's make sure we're still there.
SPEAKER_06I don't know. It doesn't involve real estate. I don't watch scary movies. And maybe it is called The House on the I don't know. We're gonna have to Google it, but it's it's fairly new. So they they the realtor takes them to the house, you know, just talks it up. Beautiful home, beautiful home. She's walking through. I mean, you can tell the realtor knows something though about the house. The history, right? Yeah, but the husband, you know, like a typical husband, he's not even caring. He's I love this house. Look at this fireplace, look at this mantle, look, baby.
SPEAKER_04That's awesome. You're great. I love it. Just checking.
SPEAKER_06And then the wife, you know, she's looking around, she's she's liking how it looks. It's an old, older house with craftsmith style. And um she's kind of getting something off, but she goes with it for the husband. First couple days, things are fine. Are you trying to find it? House tour or house on the hill. Yeah. House on the hill, I think it is. Okay, so a few days. Well, she's washing the dishes, and all of a sudden her ring is gone off of her hand. Okay, so she's looking, she reaches down into the it turns on. Yeah, it's yuck. Nothing happened. She got it out right before. Okay, so little things like this are starting to happen with the ghost. Yeah. I'm not gonna give the whole thing away, but things that she tries to call the realtor. Okay, please, the realtor's like, you know, not answering. She tracks her down in the town. What is this house going on? It turns out, I mean, I I don't want to give away too much, but if in case you want to watch it, but there was a wife, a husband and wife that had lived there, and the husband had abused the wife for years and years and years. So ended up killing her. The husband I think he killed himself or died or whatever. So, in fact, the couple that moved into the house, the husband was abusive as well. So, this ghost was actually trying to help and protect the woman.
SPEAKER_07There you go.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Well, here's so sci-fi or real, right? Yeah, versus so to me, you would pray. I you should bless your home. Right. You should pray over your home. And you should, I mean, I I walk through my house a bajillion times. Raise your kids, pray over those kids, pray over those rooms, anoint those doorways. Yes, all my all my doorways are have a cross. Yeah, you don't want any of that. Uh-uh. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04As long as you don't go home and they're upside down.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Dude, I swear to you, and I I'm not even kidding.
SPEAKER_07Oh my gosh. No.
SPEAKER_06I we're not doing any of that. No. But I I'm serious. And I do think that people should, when they're getting shown a house, I think they should slow down a little bit.
SPEAKER_04If if if they're if they're in tune to it, worry about it. You know what I mean? So like Lydia doesn't want to have anything to do with that. She doesn't think about it. So she doesn't, it's it's it's it's she's not in tune with it. It's out of her.
SPEAKER_07But I think I think she she's never hit that. I think if she if she felt that she would say something's off with this house, right? She'd probably call me and she'd say, something like that. Yeah. But but that's one of those things that if the person says they want to leave, then you go on and share that with the listing agent, or you just say they weren't interested. They weren't interested. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_07I didn't know if I mean because if it's something like House on the Hill that's been on the market Mexican last night, and we, you know, we just felt nothing. And so anyway. And so so you don't want to bring things that maybe isn't there. So yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Yeah. All right, cool. Well, hey, on the on the flip of that, right? Ghosts, all I so the big thing with that is like either believe or you don't. Yeah. Right. Right. And if you believe in the Holy Ghost and all, then you're taking the Holy Ghost. But what I mean is that means if there's a Holy Ghost and you believe in the Holy Ghost, there's others.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_04That's just putting that out there. So anyway. Right. Well, that's what I mean. I've I've had I've had discussions with family members like I don't believe in ghosts. Well, do you believe in Holy Ghost? Well, yes. In the Holy Spirit? Yes. Well, then there's other ghosts as well. So, well, anyway, long distance. Okay. So funny stuff. So funny stuff is showing. Have you had anything like, uh huh, like they open a closet door and like there's like a mannequin, you know, or well, taxidermy. Those could be fun.
SPEAKER_07I was showing a house and I walked, it was the first time I'd been in the house, and my client was behind me, which was a youth pastor that was moving to work at our church. Anyway, I am walking around the corner and there is a bear.
SPEAKER_04And life size full bear.
SPEAKER_07Oh, life-size full bear. And I screamed and jumped into his arms. And his wife stand by and they cracked up. It was the funniest thing. That's the cutest thing. You know, that I jump in this. But that, and so that just taught me like if I saw any taxidermy in the house when you first walk in, be looking around the corner. Right. So the same house, the same house. So freak out over the bear. Then I go into another room. And I'm thinking, it should be fine by now because the bear scared me to death. And there was a like a jaguar sitting on a log or something. No, on the desk or just your drawers. And it was sitting there. And it's it's eye level. Okay, I'm not very tall. Right. So it's eye level. And man, I let out a scream again. I wish so bad I would have been there.
SPEAKER_04I'm glad you have a strong bladder.
SPEAKER_07Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_04Well clean up L1.
SPEAKER_07Way back when, because I don't know what would happen today as an older.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god.
SPEAKER_07But that was crazy.
SPEAKER_06You know, that's those are like because really you never ex you never know what to expect, really, if you're walking.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Have you had any closet moments or anything that you're like necessarily that, but was house in town was it in iguana?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah. The day we're closing and we went there. I don't, you weren't with that screen. No, they had it out on the floor, running around and playing with it. And I'm like, I don't, I don't do reptiles, anything like that. And the kid came up to me and he's like, Do you want to pet it? And literally has it right here by me. And I'm like, no, I don't. I want you to get away from me. I don't do reptiles.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Oh my gosh. Warm-blooded only. I don't do that.
SPEAKER_07And then so, okay, mine were dead and they scared me. Yours was real.
SPEAKER_05This one's alive and in my face.
SPEAKER_07I went into one house, and you know, people always say, you know, don't mind the dog. Yeah. Because he's very friendly or she's very friendly. Okay, that dog likes you, uh-huh, but I'm a stranger coming in. That's okay. So you think about the dog, the ankle biters and all of that, you know. So you think about a dog. Okay, cats. Cats usually take off and hide.
SPEAKER_04No, not all of them.
SPEAKER_07Oh, not all of them. They love all of them. I'm allergic to all animals, so all of them want to say.
SPEAKER_06Cats? They do that on purpose. Yes. To people like you.
SPEAKER_07So this cat, I walk in the door and I see it, and then I turned and it's on the back of the couch and it's growling at me. And then people do that. Yeah, oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I've seen cats act like dogs before. Yeah, I see. And will attack like dogs. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_07And I just said, I'm out. Because I'm like, no, I'm not gonna get I'm out.
SPEAKER_04Finger up, I'm gone later.
SPEAKER_07People were like, Lisa, it's fine. And I was like, that cat is what? So this cat is nuts. So anyway, they go ahead. I stand pretty much by the door because I'm running.
SPEAKER_04That segment is that cat is nuts. That's your cut. You're gonna do it.
SPEAKER_07This is huge. So every every room that I would walk into, the cat would get there first and you know I call I did call the listing agent, which is a friend of mine.
SPEAKER_04You gotta put the attack cat away.
SPEAKER_07I will never show that house again. She cracked up. I said, it sold pretty quick, but the cat was staying here. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Maybe, maybe that was a demon cat. The Holy Spirit.
SPEAKER_07And that cat was like, oh with the demon. Yeah, it was a cat.
SPEAKER_04I'm just saying. All right.
SPEAKER_07It was a nut cat that just didn't like anybody in its house. It said, I'm not moving. Very territorial.
SPEAKER_04Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Very yeah.
SPEAKER_06Well, no, I people are like that about their animals. And and and it is a little bit scary. And I am a huge animal lover, and I will walk up. I would walk up to a real jaguar, probably.
SPEAKER_07But when I was like boop its nose.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_07But yeah, me not. No.
SPEAKER_06But I will maybe not. There was this big dog, you know, not not crude. Not this big dog, but that I was going into a house to to film, and I was a little nervous. And it's barking at me.
SPEAKER_04But they sense that too.
SPEAKER_06And then I know they sense that. So I had to really try to compose yourself. And and and it followed me around. It was so nice, you know, so wiggly and and licking me, but you never know when they could turn because that my dog, but from before this dog.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_06He could be like the nicest. He could just be laying there and then all of a sudden Psychotic break. Yes, dude. Well, what is their job?
SPEAKER_04Protect.
SPEAKER_07To protect. Protect their family, their home. I am a stranger. I'm bringing more strangers. But you're the smiley face on their house. That cat did not care.
SPEAKER_06They say get your face out. That's what he said. It wasn't Garfield. So I'm mad. It's like cute aggression because Lisa's face is too cute.
SPEAKER_07My gosh. So then let's see. What's something else? Another animal. Oh, I love the animals. The goose. The goose. We'll go to that. The goose. You don't mess with a goose when it has eggs. Well, I thought it was fake. Yes, she did think it was fake. It was not fake. And then I had a little girl that came to see the view of the house with her parents. And um she goes down to the pond and she's it's a goose. That goose was not happy. She goose, you know, just oh yeah. Wings out, the flapping, flat head down to come after kissing.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_07You know, they're scary. No, they're scary. And she ran back up to the house.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_07Another one was I walked in a room. They did not tell me. They the agent forgot to tell me that there was a dog in a kennel. Okay. And they had the kennel covered because if the dog sees, then they might fall out. If he hears, they bark.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07So I'm not ready for that. And like and it was a big, like Rottweiler bark dog. Man.
SPEAKER_04That can come out of those kennels, actually. Yeah. They can get through those gates.
SPEAKER_07Sometimes you do need husky breaks out of his.
SPEAKER_04That's what I mean.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. That bark just, I mean, I backed right out of that room. But it was a little bit more.
SPEAKER_03Okay, here's another room, folks.
SPEAKER_05I showed a house in town. I don't, I don't know if you've shown this one, but it's not on anymore. One of the bedrooms they kept their dogs in whenever showings would happen. They were home, but we couldn't go in the bedroom because they're dogs. And I'm like, we need to get in there to see. We couldn't. And the dogs, the entire time we're in there showing the house, is literally trying to get out and just growling and barking. I'm like, And probably scratching the door. We're gonna get attacked.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and the floor.
SPEAKER_05The entire time they're in there doing that. And they wouldn't, we couldn't go in there and see the room.
SPEAKER_07We just yeah. And you know, sellers, people, they love their animals, buyers love their animals and all that. But other people walking in when you're trying to sell your house, you have to think about I want to make that buyer as comfortable as I want to make their agent as comfortable as possible.
SPEAKER_06I'm not the clients, it's about the agent. An animal, not even a cat.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, yeah. You gotta you gotta think about those things.
SPEAKER_04I'm glad you brought that up because again, you know, this is the realtor segment, and you know, this is we're freewilling it today, but still it's comes back to sellers. Come on. Yeah, you know, not everyone likes your same likes.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_04And if you really want your home to sell, be thinking about the the other agents and buyers, potential buyers coming through.
SPEAKER_07I had a seller who had snakes in in the basement. He was uh professor at Blackburn, and that was what he did was all the reptile stuff and fish and all of that. And he had what 20, I think there was like 27 aquariums in the home and with fish and all snakes and food sources. There was snakes. Yeah, and they were telling me because I said ice over here. When do you want to come see it? We're getting ready to move, and then we want you to come see this ass. And I said, when all the reptiles are gone. My finger are gone. All the reptiles are gone.
SPEAKER_04Well, they're all gone-ish.
SPEAKER_07Except for the one we lost. We lost one. That's what they said. Is that what happened? That's what they're doing. Oh my god. Dude, what?
SPEAKER_04Just being goofy and you're like unreal.
SPEAKER_07And I said, It's still in that house somewhere.
SPEAKER_04It might be in the ductwork.
SPEAKER_07I'm telling you right now, if one falls out of, you know, like the seal, you know, they have the nightmare.
SPEAKER_04Fat snake.
SPEAKER_06If you were going to the bathroom and it came up through the pipes.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. She's gonna think about it.
SPEAKER_06She's gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_04Every time she now sits on the toilet, she's gonna be like Dude, every night I think of it.
SPEAKER_06I already think of it every night. You do it why? Because I'm a weenie. I already said it. I don't do it. Did we think did something happen when we were little? We have trouble.
SPEAKER_04So we have identified a lot of things in the This episode, and I love that we did this now, right?
SPEAKER_06I love it.
SPEAKER_04Middle is a weenie, right? We've got that. I'm a big scary cat of cats.
SPEAKER_07Of taxidermy. I'm a taxidermy. Cats don't like me. Yeah. I love it. This is great. This is awesome.
SPEAKER_04I love the stripped down. We're showing that first choice reality pros. They're real people.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_04They're real people. They have real phobias. They have real likes, dislikes, right? Yeah. And they have real life experiences to help you sell and buy your home.
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_04I mean, that's what this is what this turned into today. This is awesome. And just to let our listeners know. That's a good point. We do we did have a special guest supposed to be joining us today. Yes. Thanks to First Choice Reality Pros. That person unfortunately was ill and not able to make it. Right. We'll have them on a future episode. Yes. And so we kind of like, look, let's just go back to curtains. Let's just talk. Let's roll. Right. So this is great. Yes. Because it really lets everyone know who you guys are. I love this. This is awesome.
SPEAKER_06I do too. And I think that that's an important thing to be able to. Sorry, when I work with people, I want to be friends with them. Like some people don't like that, you know, but like you're my friend. You know, I I'm on days kids. I don't want it to just be like a business transaction. I know some people are like that. Right. I'm not. You guys aren't like that. She's the mother. Yeah. Yeah. She's the mother. I'm the realtor mom and realtor aunt. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03For Lydia? Yeah. Daughter, realtor. Daughter daughter.
SPEAKER_07So many funny, crazy things. And if you can't laugh it off, you know, and and move forward and help make the buyer or the seller not feel bad for whatever. It reminds me of a seller. She's walking me through her home. This was years ago. And you know, she's she worked really hard at getting everything clean and trying. She's a single mom. So she can't do a lot of things on her own. Right, right. So then she opens up a door and the doorknob falls off in her hand. So okay, one. Okay. And so she's putting, and I said, Oh, that's an easy fix. No, no big deal. So we walk into the next door and the doorknob falls off into her hand. Yeah. And she was like, Oh my gosh. She said, I don't even remember this ever happening before. So then we go to the third door, the doorknob falls off. And I'm like, I called it the doorknob house. This is the doorknob. I see. This is like, yeah. It was just crazy.
SPEAKER_04And it was the cellar showing you. It was the cellar for a listing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07The knobs were falling off. So of course we got that fixed, you know, before we ever left the buyer go in. But it was just an odd, it was like three in a row doorknobs. That is that's really yeah, it was just weird. I'm glad you didn't know. I wonder if somebody came in and was like messed with her.
SPEAKER_04So it wouldn't sell.
